Southern Water’s improved Pesticide Measures Pilot Scheme 2023

Southern Water is offering funding to farms in the Upper Beult for advice and testing, land management interventions and yard improvements to help protect and improve water quality in the river Beult.

Upper Beult Farm Cluster members are eligible to apply for:

Measure 1 – Advice and testing: Funding for a range of expert advice, soil testing and blackgrass resistance testing designed to build long-term soil health and equip farms with the knowledge to make informed management decisions – up to £2,500 per farm.

Measure 2 – Over winter cover crops: Intended to facilitate spring cropping as a cultural control for arable weeds and avoid bare soils over the winter – Up to £120 per hectare.

Measure 3 – In-field and riparian buffer strips: To intercept surface run-off – £400 per hectare.

Measure 4 – Two-year herbal ley: Intended to help manage blackgrass populations and build soil health – £400 per hectare per year.

Capital Grants for Pesticide Reduction: In addition to our Farm Capital Grant Scheme, we may now also offer funding of up to £25,000 per farm for new sprayer filling and washdown facilities.

The application window is open now and closes on 30th June 2023.  Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and applicants will receive confirmation of funding by 31st July 2023. Capital grants have a rolling application window.
