There were fantastic turn outs for the nightingale event in April and the turtle dove event in May!
With attendees from Upper Beult and Marden Farmer Clusters, Marden Wildlife, RSPB’s Operation Turtle Dove, Adonis Blue Environmental Consultancy and KWT, these connected events demonstrated knowledge sharing at its best.
Not only did we get to see first-hand the work being done by farmers in providing critical habitat for these endangered species, but we were party to what can be achieved for nature through collaboration.
We heard nightingales, we saw a turtle dove, and I overheard one attendee say “I am learning so much” – I think we can call that a success!
A huge thank you to Mike and Jan at Moat Farm, Christine at Moatlands Farm, and Sarah at Stonepit Farm House for hosting. Plus a big thank you to Marden Wildlife and Marden Farmer Cluster for sharing the work they have been doing.
Spreading the word on Nightingales!
On Wednesday 1st May BBC Radio Kent visited cluster members Mike and Jan Bax at Moat Farm to hear the nightingales and speak to those involved in the cluster projects supporting them. Tom Ormesher representing Southern Water, Rory Harding from Kent Wildlife Trust and Kathi Bauer from South East Rivers Trust all gave updates on how they were working with the Upper Beult Farmer Cluster and why nightingales are so important, particularly in this area. Mike and Jan also explained what they were doing on farm to support these threatened birds and how in turn, it is supporting so much more wildlife!
